Active investment management (any strategy intended to beat the performance of its index benchmark) has been under scrutiny for decades for its inconsistency in delivering on its objective. There is plenty of…

Fees, Fees, More Fees

Fees and expenses have been shown to be the most consistent and reliable predictor of a fund’s net performance. In Morningstar’s 2015 global study of fund investors in 25 developed and developing countries…

Why a Fiduciary?

Fiduciary duty is one of the three pillars of long-term investor success. A fiduciary is bound by law to act in an ethical manner and in the best interests of another. Portfolio Managers in a fiduciary relationship with their clients…

About RAM

Resolute Asset Management (RAM) manages custom portfolios, for residents of Ontario, within RRSP, TFSA, RESP and taxable accounts. Founder, Mark Doyle, has advised hundreds of large and sophisticated Canadian corporate and government pension fund clients on investment strategy during his nearly 30-year career.

RAM delivers on three critical success factors:

  • Performance that closely tracks market returns, through broad-diversification across asset classes.
  • Low fees, ensuring higher net-return to investors.
  • Unbiased advice, that naturally flows from RAM’s fiduciary duty to clients.

7 Reasons to Choose RAM

1. Duty to Clients

RAM is required to put clients’ interests first. Unlike mutual fund advisors at the dealers and banks, we have a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of clients. We can never put our own interests before our clients’ interests. We must choose investments based only on the suitabilty for the clients.

2. Alignment of Interests

RAM has no competing interests with clients. Our independent structure minimizes real and potential conflicts of interest. We have no affiliations with any other firm. We do not earn revenue from any source, other than our explicit management fee; nor do we gain from foreign exchange transactions or from referrals of any kind.

3. Disciplined and Long-Term

RAM seeks to closely match market returns. Indexing has demonstrated consistently superior returns over active management. It provide very high levels of diversification and risk control, at low cost (See article “Spotlight on Performance”).

Market timing does not work and, in fact, creates uncompensated risk. Long-term success depends largely on being fully-invested, with an asset mix that is suitable to each investor. The asset mix is designed to provide appropriate risk control, discipline and portfolio stability, and is adjusted as life cirmustances change.

4. Best-In-Class ETFs

RAM selects only best-in-class ETFs. Each exchange-traded-fund (ETF) represents a particular market or segment of Canadian and foreign fixed income and equity. We build and manage broadly diversified and cost-effective portfolios using only the very best ETFs available, based on our proprietary investment criteria.

We manage tax implications. This requires careful analysis at the household level. We consider the account type in the ETF selection process. Certain ETF structures and asset classes are better suited for taxable accounts, while others are more suitable for RRSPs or TFSAs and RESPs.

5. Low Management Fees

Fees include custody and all brokerage commissions. Our low-fee structure means higher returns for clients. As assets grow, the average fee declines even further. Family pricing: All accounts within a relationship, including those of family members in the same household, are automatically consolidated for fee calculation purposes.

6. Partnerships

Partnership with leaders. We engage specialists, including Fidelity Clearing (Canada), which provides custodial services, trade execution and settlement, and issuing client statements.  NDEX Systems provides RAM with leading technology and software through their comprehensive portfolio management system.

7. Risk Control and Protection

Stringent oversight by OSC. As a regulated financial institution and discretionary Portfolio Manager registered with the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), RAM is required to adhere to stringent government regulations, including strict oversight and compliance requirements.  Protection also includes comprehensive Financial Institution Bond insurance through Chubb Canada.
